His Excellency Prime Minister Abdi Farah Shirdon today visited Dusamareb at the outset of a regional tour to meet local administrations, listen to local communities and discuss the provision of basic public services.
The Prime Minister was hosted by Galgadud Governor Ahmed Hassan Iyow, who welcomed him before the premier addressed a large public gathering. Congratulating the local leadership and Ahlu Sunnna Waljamaa on the defeat of Al Shabaab, the Prime Minister said development and public services would follow the improvement in security. At present services are extremely limited, with no police, court system or tax collection.
“When I was a child this city was more developed and beautiful than it is now,” the Prime Minister said. “Yet I say to you now that this region will soon see government services return and international development agencies establishing operations here. That is the peace dividend which you can expect from the transformation in security here.”
The Prime Minister was travelling with the Minister of Interior, Abdikarim Hussein Guled, the Minister of Defence, Abdihakim Mohamud Haji Fiqi, and the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Jaylaani Nur Ikar.
The high-level government tour will continue across the region.
“I will be travelling to other cities across Somalia to listen to the people, learn their priorities and determine how government can best help the local administrations to provide the public services the people deserve,” the Prime Minister said.
